Doylestown Health Celebrates Volunteer Week

Our Team |
Volunteers 2019

National Volunteer Week is April 7-13, 2019.

Doylestown Hospital is proud to have nearly 900 adult and teen volunteers in 80 services throughout our organization. Last year, volunteers contributed more than 120,800 hours to the patients, families, visitors and associates of Doylestown Hospital.

Volunteers serve in a wide array of capacities, from patient transport to the Snack Bar to lovingly knitting caps for babies. They help with administrative duties in various departments and attend to the spiritual needs of patients. Despite their different areas of service, volunteers share a few things in common. They like giving back and enjoy what they do.

Here are a few comments from volunteers regarding why they continue to volunteer at Doylestown Hospital.

"I like feeling useful and helpful to the people I volunteer for," says Ann.

"I really enjoy helping people," says Bob. "And I enjoy the association with the volunteers and staff."

"I also enjoy the socialization and structure it gives to your life," adds Marguerite. "You feel like you're part of something when you belong to an organization. It's so much fun for us."

Sharon enjoys interacting with patients. "You feel like you're making a difference in someone's life when they're not feeling well."

"I think this hospital is fantastic," Ruth says. "I like the people I work with. They make you feel that what you're doing is extremely helpful. One big thing about this place is the warmth and caring people have for each other. You see that all around in this department."

Volunteer Week is orchestrated by our dedicated Volunteer Services staff, which selects a different theme each year. This year's theme is: "Volunteers are the recipe for our success."

Karen Langley is director of Volunteer Services.

"For a hospital of our size, we have impressive numbers – 887 Volunteers served 120,823 hours of service, which equates to $2,983,119.80. And I am frequently asked how we do it?" says Karen. "The answer is fairly simple but cannot be quantified like the number of Volunteers and the hours they contribute. The real secret or 'our recipe for success' is that we are surrounded by generous hearts who feel an intense commitment to the success of our hospital.

"Our Volunteers want our community – our neighbors – to continue to be able to receive healthcare services right here at home without compromising quality. Very simply, we care about each other. And THAT is the true recipe for our success that our Volunteers represent so beautifully each day."
