Doylestown Health congratulates Lenape Valley Foundation on its 60th anniversary. The foundation recently marked its milestone with a celebration event that included several award presentations. Doylestown Health and Doylestown Hospital's own Edwin R. Knopf, MD accepted honors.

Lenape Valley Foundation's mission is to partner with members of the community encountering mental health, substance use, intellectual or developmental challenges as they pursue their personal aspirations and an enhanced quality of life. Lenape Valley Foundation was founded in 1958 by community leaders who believed that persons with serious mental illness could be effectively treated in their community. Lenape Valley offers a wide range of services for children and adults.

Lenape Valley Chief Executive Officer Alan Hartl presented Doylestown Health with the Health and Wellness Champion award at the celebration dinner in October. The award recognizes the efforts of a health care provider supporting the mission of Lenape Valley Foundation and those it serves.

"The actions of Doylestown Health speak to an enduring organizational commitment to the health and wellness of those with mental illness," said Hartl. "We thank past and present leadership of Doylestown Health for their support of Lenape Valley Foundation and our consumers."

The partnership with Lenape Valley Foundation and Doylestown Hospital spans more than 20 years. Lenape Valley psychiatrists provide consultation services to hospital inpatients, and foundation crisis services are embedded in the Doylestown Hospital Emergency Department.

"We have been fortunate to have this level of service at Doylestown Hospital," said Doylestown Health COO Eleanor Wilson, who accepted the award.

Former Doylestown Hospital chief medical officer Edwin R. Knopf, MD received the Inner Circle Award for five decades of serving Lenape Valley Foundation. Dr. Knopf came to the foundation in 1968 as a psychiatric resident out of Norristown State Hospital and served as the foundation's Medical Director from 1972 to 1982. Dr. Knopf was instrumental in forming the collaboration between Doylestown Hospital and Lenape Valley Foundation. He joined the foundation's Board of Directors in 2004 and continues to serve as a Board member.
