Light The Night: Virtually Lighting the Darkness of Cancer

Light the Night colored lanterns

Like everything else since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Light The Night for Greater BucksMont will look different this year. Doylestown Health is proud to sponsor Light The Night, a series of fundraising campaigns supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), raising money for the research necessary to find a cure for blood cancers.

According to Monique Riotto, Campaign Development Manager for Light The Night, the virtual experience, which replaces the local annual in-person event, captures the same supportive spirit and powerfully uplifting celebration of life found in the classic format, in a safe, computer-generated environment. It will take place online on Friday, October 9, 2020 – 7 to 8 pm.

What Will Be the Same and Different About This Year's Event?

After experiencing a test-run of the virtual experience, Monique is "super excited and pumped-up" for participants to "celebrate, honor and remember those touched by cancer" at this year's event. According to Light The Night invitation, "Now is the time for us to be bigger and more powerful than we've ever been before."

This year's event will simulate the iconic Light The Night activities, including the critical Light The Night events participants have come to know and love, such as Circle of Survivors, the Remembrance Pavilion and the beloved Ceremony.

What would any group celebration be without selfies? Monique explains that this year supporters can take pictures of themselves with virtual-versions of backgrounds that one would encounter during the classic Light The Night event.

How Will This Year's Event Look?

Participants will be able to explore the event site, as one would at the in-person event, and engage with all of the activities found online. Participants will come together at 7:15 pm to watch the emotional and inspiring Ceremony. After the Ceremony, participants are encouraged to take a brief walk in their neighborhood, with their physical or augmented reality lantern, and then rejoin the larger group for a social celebration bringing light to our local communities and across social media.
