The Carol and Louis Della Penna Pediatric Center Celebrates 5th Birthday
There is a special place in Doylestown Hospital where sick children heal, and families are educated and supported.
The Della Penna Pediatric Center is celebrating five years of providing personalized care to young patients and their families.
Since opening its doors in 2014, the Della Penna Pediatric Center has treated about 1,500 patients in a colorful, comfortable and calming environment. These surroundings create a healing setting for some of our youngest patients, and allow our pediatric staff to care for infants through teens and their families. Experienced physicians and nurses work as a team to provide a personal level of care to each patient.
Providing exceptional care close to home remains the goal.
"We are here for the community," says Kristina Elmer, pediatric clinical nurse manager. "And we will continue to grow to meet the needs of families in our community."
Grateful parents often provide positive feedback about the care received.
"What makes this place special is the dedication of the nurses, providing one-on-one attention to each patient and the education they provide to families," Kristina says.
Thanks to the generosity of local individuals, schools and organizations, there are lots of toys, art supplies and books to occupy the young patients. Each patient receives a colorful, hand-made pillowcase for their stay, which they can also take home. A secure playroom offers plenty of diversions.
The Della Penna Pediatric Center services extend beyond the hospital setting. Since 2016, under the leadership of outreach manager Ashley J. Heidler, MSN, RN, CPN, our outreach efforts have included over 230 community programs, reaching more than 15,000 children and family members. Program topics include health and wellness education, nutrition, safety, and more. Doylestown Health continues to collaborate with local schools and youth organizations to provide these services, including the Central Bucks School District, Central Bucks YMCA, Bucks County Children's Museum, Horsham Library, the CB Cares Educational Foundation and the Parent Positive Speaker Series.
Doylestown Health's vision for a thriving pediatric program was made possible thanks to the generous individuals, local businesses, corporations and foundations who supported the construction of the new Center in 2014, including a significant leadership gift from Carol and Louis Della Penna.
Ongoing donations designated for our pediatric program continue to fund vital equipment upgrades and outreach efforts. It is because of the community's investment in our program that we are able to celebrate our 5th anniversary this fall. Doylestown Health is grateful to all who helped to make this possible.
