Don't let exercise drop off your to-do list when the leaves start falling. Autumn is a great time to get some exercise outdoors, and Bucks County offers plenty of activities to keep you and your family moving.
Here are five ways to stay active and enjoy the autumn season.
Beautiful Bucks County offers a great landscape for walking, especially in the fall. Studies have shown that walking briskly is a great way to get physical activity. It doesn't cost much except a good pair of sneakers, and you can do it just about anywhere.

Interested in something a little speedier than strolling? Bucks County is home to lots of running enthusiasts, young and old, who can attest to the health benefits of running.

Doylestown Health is a sponsor of the popular annual Travis Manion Foundation's 9/11 Heroes Run, which takes place on Sunday, September 27. This family-friendly 5-K and 1-mile fun run/walk welcomes runners and walkers of all ages and levels, with proceeds benefiting the Travis Manion Foundation and the Doylestown Fire Company.
If you like to get your run in early in the morning, Cornerstone Clubs has a Cornerstone Run Club that meets Wednesdays at 6:30 am in Doylestown's Central Park. It's free and open to all.
Perhaps two-wheel fun is more your speed. Biking in Bucks County is a great way to get physical activity (remember to wear a helmet!).

The area's big upcoming biking event is the Thompson Bucks County Classic, and Doylestown Health is again a sponsor of this popular event in Doylestown. The September 13th event features an amateur men's race, a pro women's race, children's races and the pro men's criterium. The event also coincides with the Doylestown Arts Festival (September 12-13) so it's an all around great time.
In addition to enjoying some great scenery, hiking in Bucks County is also a great way to get regular exercise. Physical activity like hiking can lower your blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, help you lose weight, strengthen bones and elevate your mood. Features like hills and uneven terrain can give you even more of a work out.
Bucks County and Pennsylvania parks offer plenty of hiking trails for both the novice and advanced hiker.
Unless you're reeling in something really big, fishing might not make you sweat, but it is a great way for you and your family to remain active. Hiking to a favorite fishing spot keeps you moving, and it's no secret that fishing, especially in a beautiful place like Bucks County, can be very relaxing.
