President’s Perspective: Transformations
Nature has its seasonal transformations, none perhaps more transformational than winter into spring. We are fortunate to live in a region like ours to enjoy all four seasons, although some of us may prefer certain seasons over others. Despite preferences, the woods and hills and fields of our surroundings are in a constant state of change.
In some ways Doylestown Health mirrors our environment. We change and adapt to the needs of our community. Our Doylestown Health team is transforming the delivery of health care, and some of the changes will soon be as obvious as the change of seasons.
Our focus was and remains on our patients and the innovative ways we can foster wellness and treat illness. Doylestown Health's Richard A. Reif Heart Institute has long been a regional and national leader in cardiovascular care, and we continuously explore opportunities to expand and enhance our capabilities in cardiac and endovascular services. Doylestown Hospital was the first in the region to use new technology to treat complex aortic aneurysms, a dangerous condition. We've also added cardiologists in Huntingdon Valley to our physician roster, expanding our capabilities in a wider geographic region.
In 2017 we began a new affiliation with Jefferson Health's Sidney Kimmel Cancer Network. This clinical collaboration will increase the number of clinical trials available to our patients while making it more convenient to receive advanced treatments close to home at the Doylestown Health Cancer Institute. The Doylestown Health Sleep Center recently expanded and later this summer we'll open the first Doylestown Health urgent care center.
Several physical transformations are underway or will soon begin. In April we broke ground for a new community center at Pine Run Retirement Community that will include expanded dining venues, meeting spaces and a fitness center with indoor pool. We're expanding our surgical suites in the hospital to accommodate new and innovative technologies. Our Orthopedic Institute, named among the best 100 in the nation last fall, will get a new home on the hospital campus complete with rehab facilities; ground breaking will take place late this year. The largest planned building project will begin early this fall when we break ground for an expansive Heart and Vascular Center to house our nationally-recognized program.
These projects will take a few years before they are completed. However, our transformations are designed to enhance our commitment to provide high-value health care. That's the charge we inherited from our founders, the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown, more than nine decades ago. It's a commitment we renew every day with every patient. And it's our honor to deliver on that promise!
