Children are facing stress at a much earlier age compared to previous generations.
"Learning to identify and manage stress is not only an essential life skill, but is also crucial to a child's mental health and resiliency," says Doylestown Health's pediatric outreach manager, Ashley Heidler, RN, BSN, CPN. "Children learn how to respond to stress as they grow and develop. By teaching healthy coping strategies as a way to manage stress, you're providing your child a tool-kit that aids in building mind and body wellness."

Stress-Relief Activities for Your Kids
Kids love to help out with fun "chores" like gardening, because it means special family time and makes them feel important. Make gardening a fun Spring/Summer project for the whole family! Best of all, children will be able to watch as the fruits of the labor pay off and turn into beautiful plants or healthy fruits and veggies.
Get kids away from electronics and involved in outdoor activities. Bike riding is something that children love, and is also a great source of exercise for them. Chalking on the driveway, hula hooping, jumping rope, or even flying a kite are all stress-relieving activities that kids love to do!
Indoor Stress-Relieving Activities
Although this activity can be done both indoors and outdoors, yoga is a great activity for people of all ages, including kids. Play a YouTube video, check out On-Demand television videos, join a local class or read up and try teaching it yourself! Yoga is a great stress-relieving activity that people of all ages can enjoy!
Arts and Crafts
What kid doesn't love arts and crafts? Pinterest is a great resource for parents to explore fun, crafty ideas for kids of all ages. There are plenty of ideas from easy and inexpensive to complex family projects!
Most, if not all, children love to cook, simply because it is interactive. There are many recipes out there on Pinterest, ranging from healthy, to sweet and savory, to gourmet dinners and everything in between. With little kids, something as easy as stringing Froot Loops® on a necklace or making a caterpillar out of grapes will make a fun, stress-relieving project!
Good Sleep Hygiene
Your children might be stressed because they are not getting enough sleep. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children need anywhere from 8 to 12 hours depending on their age. Having a bedtime routine and sticking to it can make for a smoother, stress-free day.
