Doylestown Health is committed to keeping our community healthy through education and outreach. Here is a recap of our efforts in the community this past month:
High Five for Handwashing
Children at Butler Elementary, Buckingham Elementary and Vita Education Services gave a "high five for handwashing" and learned the benefits of proper handwashing skills to stay healthy. Attendees learned how to scrub-a-dub-dub away germs, and put their handwashing skills to the test with a "glow germ" simulator!
Nursing Skills Refresher Day
As part of a staff development day for nurses at the Central Bucks School District, Doylestown Health's Melanie Ware, DO, provided education on gynecologic issues in adolescence, and Doylestown Health pharmacists Christine Roussel and Lindsay Gladysz provided an educational program on opioids, medical marijuana and toxicology issues.
Parents Learned Tips for Reducing Anxiety and Building Resilience in Their Child – Parent Positive
Sue Kressly, MD, FAAP, Doylestown Health Medical Staff pediatrician, presented the program "Reducing Anxiety, Building Resilience in Kids." This powerful presentation provided parents with practical tips and strategies on empowering kids to complete tasks without interventions, letting kids fail along the way, praising kids for effort not outcome, placing confidence and empowerment in their child – all with the goal of instilling success in the future. This presentation is part of the Parent Positive Speaker Series, a collaboration among Doylestown Health, CB Cares, the CB School District, and the CB Family YMCA.
Walk With A Doc Attendees Celebrated American Heart Month
Community members came out for a special Walk With A Doc Heart Month event, where they participated in health screenings, enjoyed heart-healthy breakfast items, listened to a Doylestown Health vascular surgeon speak about innovations in vascular medicine, and learned easy at-home work out options with soup cans. Attendees were encouraged to bring canned goods for the exercise, and over 140 pounds were collected and donated to the New Britain Food Larder.
Children Brushed Up on Oral Habits
Children at the Bucks County Children's Museum celebrated National Children's Dental Health Month by "brushing up" on oral health habits through experiments and hands-on demonstrations! Kids practiced brushing and flossing with jumbo teeth and toothbrush, discovered how sugar affects tooth enamel, and created their very own toothy treasure!
