National Prescription Drug Take-Back

Drug Take-Back Day

Over half of people who abuse prescription pain relievers get them from friends or relatives.

Doylestown Hospital will serve as a host site for this year's National Prescription Drug Take-Back event on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Main Lobby. Community members are invited to turn in their unused, unneeded or expired medications for safe disposal. The event is a free and anonymous service.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Medicines in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning and flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our waters.

Prescription and over- the-counter (OTC) medicines are legal products that should be used only as directed. Each day, 46 people die from an overdose of prescription painkillers. Unfortunately, many teens are using opioid painkillers and OTC medicines to get high. Almost one in four (23 percent) teens report abusing or misusing a prescription drug at least once in their lifetime, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The national event is sponsored by the DEA. The local event is supported by the Bucks County commissioners and is made possible by a grant through the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc. For more information, call the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc. at 215-444-2740.
