What is atrial fibrillation (AFib)?

The most common type of irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), AFib happens when the heart's electrical signals don't travel through the heart in a normal way and becomes rapid and disorganized. This irregular and often rapid heart rate can increase your risk of stroke and heart failure, as well as the potential to develop blood clots and other heart-related complications.
