Lung cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed and treated at Doylestown Hospital. The 5-year survival rate for all stages of lung cancer combined is only 16 percent; however, survival rates are improving due to enhanced technology, treatments and therapeutic approaches. For example, according to the American Cancer Society, the 1-year relative survival rate for lung cancer in the United States increased from 37 percent from 1975 -1979 to 44 percent in 2005 -2008, largely due to improvements in surgical techniques and combined therapies.*
