Speech, Language and Cognitive Training or Assessment

Speech pathology is focused on establishing or re-establishing communication skills to improve independence. Our certified speech therapists conduct comprehensive evaluations to develop a personalized plan of care for each patient.

Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT)

An intensive 4-week course of therapy that teaches those with Parkinson’s disease to develop the strength required to speak at a normal volume. It is prescribed by a physician and provided by a certified speech pathologist with specialized training in this therapy.

Swallow Assessment & Training

Swallow Assessment & Training is used to evaluate and treat swallowing problems affecting the mouth and throat following a stroke, brain injury or other neurological event. An X-ray test (Video Swallow Exam) may be used to assess swallowing difficulties and plan the treatment program. Licensed and certified speech pathologists teach swallowing exercises and ways to help a person learn to swallow safely. The use of VitalStim neuromuscular electrical stimulation may be used in conjunction with traditional therapy.

Voice Disorder Therapy

Voice therapy is designed to improve a person’s ability to generate voice or to decrease hoarseness. Patients are guided through change in vocal behaviors and lifestyle changes. Voice therapy is often used in conjunction with other medical therapies like injections and surgical treatments. Voice therapy, in combination with other medical interventions, has been shown to improve voice disorders like vocal cord paralysis and vocal polyps/nodules.
