About Maternity Center

About Maternity Center

Doylestown Health's VIA Maternity Center believes in a supportive and caring approach to care for every mom and baby. Because no two expectant mothers are alike, we take the time to accommodate your individual needs with a personalized birth experience. The center features all-private rooms, allowing you to labor and deliver comfortably in a peaceful, homelike environment.

Choosing a Maternity Center

Early in your pregnancy it’s important to make a thoughtful decision about where you give birth. The care you receive, type of caregiver, information and education you are provided during your pregnancy and choice of options you have in the birthing process can influence your decision.

Birth Experience

The birth experience at Doylestown Hospital is family-centered, and our caring staff makes every "birthday" special. Our state-of-the-art facilities and neonatal affiliation with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) place the very best maternity and pediatric care right in the heart of our community. We are equipped and ready to help families with higher than normal risk related to multiple births, maternal age and medical risk factors. From the most common pregnancies and deliveries to high-risk pregnancy care and round-the-clock neonatal intensive care, we offer families peace of mind and expertise.

Maternity Care Program

For over 90 years, Doylestown Hospital has offered one of the best maternity care programs in the region. With an average of 1,300 babies born every year, our highly skilled clinical team provides services from pregnancy through birth for mothers and newborns, including obstetric care, prenatal care, newborn infant care and postpartum care.

Maternity Services at a Glance:

  • 9 fully equipped labor/delivery/recovery (LDR) rooms
  • 22 private postpartum rooms
  • 10-bed well-baby nursery
  • 4-bed Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery directed by neonatologists from CHOP Newborn Care, and staffed by specially trained neonatal nurses
  • Healthcare providers include physicians and certified midwives
  • Families are encouraged to "room-in" with their newborns; the Newborn Nursery is also available
  • Nurses provide teaching and support to new parents as they learn to care for their babies

Certified Nurse Midwives

The VIA Maternity Center provides access to highly trained certified nurse midwives offering prenatal care and support of the birthing woman and family during labor and delivery. Women who choose certified nurse midwives are often interested in a holistic approach to care and a low-intervention or natural birth experience. Certified nurse midwives are advanced practice nurses who follow the same prenatal care standards and ultrasound testing guidelines as an ObGyn, with a time-intensive, family-oriented approach to the birth experience.
