Doylestown Hospital Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program Certified by Industry Leader

08/16/2016

Doylestown, PA – Doylestown Health is proud to announce the certification of the Doylestown Hospital cardiovascular rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Doylestown Hospital was recognized for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care.

"This recognition is the result of a team effort that includes physicians, nurses, and clinical exercise physiologists working together to provide a rehabilitation program that addresses all of a patient's needs," said Dave Martens, clinical manager of Cardiac Rehab. "Our team works with each individual patient to achieve realistic goals and champions each patient to help achieve a heart-healthy life."

Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular problems (e.g., heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery) and pulmonary problems (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], respiratory symptoms,) recover faster and improve their quality of life. Both programs include exercise, education, counseling, and support for patients and their families.

Doylestown Hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation program includes four phases to assist patients with their recovery. The Cardiac Rehab program is designed to gradually and safely condition a patient's heart, increase heart function and help each patient achieve a heart-healthy lifestyle. Phase 1 involves inpatient rehabilitation with one-on-one personal care. In Phase 2, participants exercise while monitored at Doylestown Hospital's cardiac rehab on an outpatient basis. Phase 3 includes supervised rehabilitation at the Health and Wellness Center by Doylestown Hospital in Warrington. Finally, Phase 4 continues the rehab program at the Health and Wellness Center for 90 days.

The Doylestown Hospital cardiovascular rehabilitation program participated in an application process that requires extensive documentation of the program's practices. AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other professional societies. Each program is reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee and Certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors.

AACVPR-certified programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available. AACVPR Program Certification is valid for three years.
