DOYLESTOWN, SEPT 14, 2016 — National organizations that set the standards of clinical care for stroke and cardiovascular treatment are recognizing Doylestown Health with awards for their commitment to quality and patient safety.
For the fifth year in a row, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association recognizes Doylestown Hospital with the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award. Doylestown Hospital also qualifies for Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite Plus.
The award recognizes the hospital's commitment to providing the most appropriate stroke treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
Doylestown Hospital has also met specific scientific guidelines as a Primary Stroke Center, featuring a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the emergency department. Close collaboration with local Emergency Medical Services results in a more efficient system to get suspected stroke patients the care they need more quickly than if the patient comes in on their own. A stroke alert initiated by EMS allows the stroke team to prepare for a patient's arrival and quickly sets treatment protocols in motion.
Doylestown Hospital now offers an innovative procedure to quickly treat stroke patients. The Intra-Arterial Thrombectomy Program (IAT) takes Doylestown Health's stroke care to another level by providing access to advanced stroke treatment not typically offered in a suburban hospital setting.
Doylestown Hospital also received honors for treatment of heart attack. They include the Mission: Lifeline® Gold Plus Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks.
The national standard for treating heart attack patients with balloon angioplasty to restore blood flow to a blocked artery is within 90 minutes of arrival at the hospital door (door-to-balloon time or D2BT). Doylestown Hospital beats this standard over 90% of the time and meets an aggressive 60-minute D2BT about 60% of the time.
Doylestown Hospital is one of only 223 hospitals nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology's NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2016.
The award recognizes Doylestown Hospital's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that Doylestown Hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
In addition, Doylestown Hospital received the Get With The Guidelines®-Resuscitation Silver Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer cardiac arrest in the hospital.
"These awards reflects the hard work and dedication of the team of physicians, nurses and technicians who make every effort to provide the fastest and safest care for our patients," said Scott Levy, MD, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Doylestown Health. "The implementation of these guidelines requires successful coordination of the stroke, cardiovascular and emergency teams and is a critical step in saving the lives and improving outcomes for these patients."
