Doylestown Health is pleased to announce that two colorectal surgeons have joined Doylestown Health Physicians. Doylestown Health Colorectal Specialists welcomes Robert Akbari, MD, and Christopher Bruce, MD.

Doylestown Health Colorectal Specialists provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of disorders of the colon, rectum, anus and small intestine. Our surgeons are board-certified in colorectal surgery and proficient in robotic surgery techniques. They are experts in smaller proctologic ailments, as well as complex and robotic surgery to treat cancer and other serious colon and rectal conditions.

Robert Akbari, MD

Dr. Akbari is board-certified in Colorectal Surgery and is the author of numerous publications on anorectal diseases, colorectal cancer prevention and screening, rectal surgery and more.

Dr. Akbari earned his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University, followed by general surgical training at Western Pennsylvania Hospital - Clinical Campus, Temple University School of Medicine. He completed a clinical research fellowship in colorectal service at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center, and colorectal fellowship at the University of Minnesota.

Christopher Bruce, MD

Dr. Bruce is a Fellow of the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the author of numerous publications. He has received Top Doctor honors by U.S. News & World Report and other NY Metro and Philadelphia publications.

Dr. Bruce earned his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he also completed general surgery residency and postgraduate research. He completed his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Massachusetts.

Robotic Surgery

Both Dr. Akbari and Dr. Bruce are proficient in all aspects of colon and rectal surgery, with an emphasis in robotic surgery. Minimally-invasive robotic surgery provides the most technologically advanced equipment for performing routine and complex procedures. Incisions are smaller than in traditional open surgery and allows patients to experience faster recovery with less pain and a quicker return to normal bowel function.
