Doylestown Hospital is the only hospital in Pennsylvania to achieve this distinction
Doylestown Hospital earned a 14th consecutive ‘A’ grade for patient safety from Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. This national distinction recognizes the hospital’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors in the hospital.
Doylestown is the only hospital in Pennsylvania to earn 14 consecutive ‘A’ ratings and one of 89 hospitals in the country performing at this level.
The new spring 2023 grades reflect performance primarily during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic (late 2021-2022); Only 29% of hospitals nationwide received an ‘A’.
“We value this recognition from the Leapfrog Group, which comes as we celebrate Doylestown Hospital’s Centennial Anniversary,” says Scott Levy, MD, vice president and chief medical officer of Doylestown Health.
“The hospital continues to maintain a commitment to deliver patient-centered care with the highest standards of excellence in safety and outcomes,” says Dr. Levy. “This year’s performance is particularly meaningful because it demonstrates that Doylestown Hospital’s culture of safety endured, even as our Medical Staff and Associates navigated unprecedented challenges presented by Covid-19.”
“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But Doylestown Hospital received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers and clinicians who together made that possible.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually: in the fall and spring.
