Cardiothoracic Surgery

Doylestown Health Cardiothoracic Surgery offers innovative technology and excellent outcomes to provide world-class care in a community hospital setting.

Our fellowship-trained physicians, surgeons and nursing staff are specially certified in cardiac care. We provide heart attack care and advanced diagnostic and treatment options for heart patients. Our open-heart surgical teams are available to perform life-saving heart surgery whenever necessary, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Cardiac Surgery

Open heart surgery is any surgery that involves opening the chest to operate on the heart muscle, heart valves, arteries or other parts of the heart. Open heart surgery requires stopping the heart and using a heart-lung bypass machine to divert the flow of blood.

In minimally invasive heart surgery, surgery is performed through small incisions in the right side of the chest between the ribs. This type of surgery may or may not use a heart-lung bypass machine. Minimally invasive heart surgery is used to do some bypass and maze surgeries. It is also used to repair or replace heart valves, insert pacemakers, or take a vein or artery from the body to use as a bypass graft for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).

Thoracic Surgery

Doylestown Health’s experienced thoracic (lung) surgeons diagnose and treat disorders of the lung and chest, including early to advanced stage lung cancer. Using state-of the-art facilities and equipment, our surgeons perform a wide-range of thoracic procedures including video-assisted thoracic surgery, lung biopsy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy, thoracoscopy and thoracotomy.

Cardiothoracic surgery is the field of medicine involved in surgical treatment of diseases affecting organs inside the thorax (the chest). Generally, treatment of conditions of the heart and lungs.

Our experienced cardiothoracic surgeons offer advanced treatments including complex open-heart procedures and minimally invasive approaches.

Our highly experienced cardiothoracic team includes cardiovascular surgeons, physicians, operating room nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and perfusionists (specialists who operate the heart-lung bypass machine during surgery).

Cardiac Home Care

A special service for open-heart surgery patients features a home visit for follow-up care from a former Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit nurse. This experienced nurse gets to know you before your procedure and follows your progress during your time in the hospital.
